I use arches so I can't help with the fish symbols. It sounds like the readouts are doing what they are supposed to do. The second readout will automatically change to course any time there is a map on the screen. The second readout will only show a user selected reading when the only thing on the screen is the SONAR.

The very first thing I would try is to revert to your previous version of SW...

    Go here...
You'll have to register to download but it's free...

Download your previous version of SW onto a dedicated SD card....
    Power your unit on....
    Restore factory defaults...
Stick SD card card in your unit...
Follow prompts...."yes" to update and then "no" to abort...
Unit should install update and then restart....
    Restore factory defaults again....
Test your unit running on the previous version of SW to see if things are working correctly....
Post back here with your results...(before updating to the newest version of SW)

Updates are very finiky (and very buggy when they first come out)
I never update my unit to the newest version of SW until I've watched the boards for a while to see if there are bugs....

    Crappiegirl,
When you get back to customer service ask for the manager. That is what I did and the people at Lowrance helped me out. Sent a HDS-8 in for screen bubbles and got it back in 7 weeks. I was very upset about the whole thing and still a little leary of customer service. I think you should take the whole thing back while you can. I had a transducer go out after just a few months. These things are made in China or the parts come from there. Start all over with everything and make sure the box has not been opened. Should have a seal on it. It will get better soon and I hope you get back to fishing and change gears.Hang in there!

As I recall, they didn't have stock to send you a new one..... When they have them, they ship them right away. Sorry it took longer then you expected.

I called Lowrance Customer Service several times this week with questions. Never waited more then a minute, I was happy about that.

You are 1 LUCKY LUCKY man then. My poor uncle was about to go to the crazy house dealing with there customer service.... Although, they did in fact help him with his problem and now he LOVES his unit (hds-8). that was back last fall. I luckily havent had any problems with my 997si unit. God I hope I dont have to..................
