gps coordinants

SO i got an old garmin gps V
today when i tried to put the gps coordinants in for my local public bruchpiles, it seems the format is diiferent from what the conservation dept lists, and the way my gps wants them entered.
i cant look at my gps right now but here is how the dept, lists the points.
Long. decimal Lat. decimal Long degrees, min, seconds Lat degrees, min, sec
-94.7825 40.3742 -94 46' 57.057'' 40 22' 26.984''

i couldnt seem to match up the numbers and get it right.
does anyone have some tips?
i would tell you what format my gps wants but, it only has a car charger, and it is dead.

Your post has the same coordinate in it twice, once in Degrees and Decimal Degrees and then again in Degrees, Minutes and Seconds. Most GPS units can take multiple formats but you have to tell it how you want it to handle them.

You can also convert it yourself. The point you list is -94 46' 57.057" 40 22' 26.984" Just using the Lat, there are 60 minutes in a degree and 60 seconds in a minute. 26.984 seconds is 26.984/60 minutes or .4497 minutes, so you have 40 degrees 22.4497 minutes. 22.4497 minutes is 22.4497/60 degrees or 0.3742 degrees, meaning your lat is 40.3742 degrees which is what is given in the first value.

There is another common format, which is very common, and that is Degrees, Minutes and Decimal Minutes.

Ok thank you ill read this over while looking at my gps, and see if i cant figure it out, I'm usually pretty technically inclined, but today i was in a hurry to get the coordinants plotted and get to fishing.
