Getting some conflicting info off of the HB site. It's listed as an accessory when you look at the 898 list of accessories, but when you select the transducer, it's not on the list of compatible units.

The XNT 9 QB 90 T will work on the 898 unit to provide you with traditional down sonar and temperature. However it does not provide you with DI or SI features.
To use both the HDSI and the Quad beam transducer you would need to use the TS3, transducer switch. The Y - cable AS SI DB Y is keyed for the dual beam transducer so you would not get QUAD beam with the use of the AS SI DB Y.

Thanks....reason I started down this road is I have a buddy with an 898 and a Terrova with US2. I thought he could connect the US2 using an adpater cable and still get regular 2D imaging, but was told the US2 is not compatible with the 898.

Got to thinking about it and I can't see why it would not be since US2 is dual beam and it would seem at least the AS SI DB splitter then the adapter to connect. Seems like there'd be no reason it wouldn't work. Then again, even without that in order to be able to move his 898 from back to front he would need:

    Power cable - PC 11
    Connector Collector
    XNT 9 QB90 T Tranducer
Additional RAM Ball (already has a complete RAM)

All this is adding up pretty quick. Prolly would be better off to get a low end 2D complete unit and slap it on the front then spin the 898 for GPS. Prolly be about the same total cost, which kind of.......stinks.

The 898 can use the US2 sonar. He would need to go under the sonar tab to transducer select and change the transducer select to Universal Sonar 2.
Now the US2 Sonar would only provide him with traditional sonar. No DI and No SI, but it would work. He would also need the MKR US2 8 (MinnKota adapter).

I wouldn't use it with the AS SI DB Y, because then in order to get a reading for depth the trolling motor would always have to be in the water.

The AS SI DB Y was designed specifically for use with the dual beam transducer (in hull or transom mounted) along with the SI transducer so that you can get depth readings at higher speeds than what the SI transducer along would provide.

Sweet...that didn't make any since to me that the US2 wouldn't work.

    OK, so:

    MKR US2 8 Adapter
    PC11 Power Wire
Collector Connecter (required right? Don't think it would stay put otherwise - going on memory)
    Mounting solution (RAM Ball)

Correct, but keep in mind if your moving the unit and you need gps too you going to need to either one extend the gps or use another gps receiver.
