I shouldn't have to rely on a $3 buoy to do what my $3000 HB should do.....

Not even an issue with me. I toss a marker after i find my brush then fish it. I dont expect my 1197 to do what a $3 marker can make so much easier to do. Just dont see your argument here.

i think the issue is with slow trollers or spiderriggers,u dont want to throw a marker and get it tangled in ur poles when u have 8 to 10 poles out, would have a mess.thats why i switched units ,if i only ky rigged or jiged the marker bouy would have been ok

I couldn't have explained it any better myself blueball .....about tangleing in my 10 spider riggin lines.....

But on another point....I would have hoped that a $3000 unit would have made a $3 marker buoy unnecessary....

Well I guess HB lost another loyal customer simply because of an aggrivating "Donut"...

The following is copied from the "donut fix humminbird" thread.....

Whelp, I finally solved my donut issues. I chose the can't miss, no slip, double grip permanent solution to a temporary problem. Sold my 997. On my way to HDS......of course, with my trusty Garmin in tow.

    Wannabe...

Found this review on Amazon while I was looking for info on a 788....this guy must not be a member here

"I purchased this unit in March, 2011 and used it 3 times. The second time the GPS tracking would not track under 2mph and would only show a donut, which is very frustrating if trying to stay over a marked fishing spot.

I contacted Humminbird and they said to download update 5.410 and it would fix the problem. I did this.

I used it the third time and the GPS tracking problem had not been fixed with the new update. This time out the depth reading began going crazy. I was in approximately 180 ft. of water and it was reading all the way down to 1.7 ft. and bouncing all over. I spoke with 3 different Humminbird techs via phone while I was on the water and we tried all kinds of settings and could not fix the problem.

Humminbird is going to send me a new transducer to try, but I do not believe it will fix it. If not, they said I will have to send the unit in to them.

It is ridiculous to pay over $800 for an item and it not work correctly, so I would not buy this item until Humminbird gets these issues resolved if I were you. "

I do a lot of striper downline fishing and have the same issue with my Lowrance. I got it to mostly go away by turning off the route "smoothing". I get a more juggily route, but at least I can see myself moving on the graph.

Everyone needs to believe in something. I believe I'll go fishing!

I find this interesting because our experience with the "donut" only shows up at speeds of less than 0.6mph.....

This guy says he sees the "donut" at less than 2mph....

I also find it interesting that HB told him an update 5.410 would fix the problem....

Maybe he explained more than just the "donut" problem to the HB tech and was lead to believe that the update would fix something other than he describes in his posting...

Thanks for posting that splinter....just goes to show that there are more customers than just crappie "slow trollers" that are not happy with the HB GPS and the "Donut".....

I still hold hope that HB will stand up and listen to genre of fishermen other than their target market of bass fishermen....
