Default Eagle FishMark 640c vs Humminbird 586c HD

What is every bodies opinion on these color finders, I am in the market for a new finder, but don't feel like I can justify 500.00 for the new down imaging units (only fishing 15 to 20 times a year). After talking to some of the big boys at the Cleveland boat show, (sonar seminar) over the weekend I am looking for a high resolution color finder. I think these two finders are very similar, but the one is brand new just coming out and the other is being discontinued, also about 70.00 difference in price. Any pros or cons on any of them?

I've been running an Eagle 640c for 4-5 years and haven't had any complaints. I did have to replace the GPS puck last year, the old one just quit working, other than that very happy with it. I've used several different Navionics Classic and Premium map chips in it with good results also. It does look like it's getting discontinued, may be hard to find accessories in the future or get tech support (HB wins hands down on support IMO) but the unit works well. Also, there is another thread about the Eagle 480 on sale right now, that is black and white LCD (not color) but if it works as well as the 640 it's a great deal at about $200 bucks, that one has a wider screen than the 640 too. http://www.crappie.com/crappie/fishi...480-209-a.html

With the 480 being discontinued you may or may not get a year warren-tee, & if so it may only be a small amount of $$ towards buying a new one, you may want to contact Eagle/lowrance to find out this info. Me I would buy the HB so you can get good support, upgrades, & service. Those HB units in that size all have a good record.......

If you're spending that much just get a Lowrance DSI unit. You'll be happy as heck with the Down Scan. Plus Lowrance has good Support, Service, and as always Free Upgrades. But buy the unit that you are comfortable with, that's most important.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I saw that post with the Eagle 480, seems like a real good deal, but I was talking to walleye pro Johnnie Candle and fishing guide L. Valentine this weekend at the show. Before talking to them I was actually thinking about the Humminbird 570 DI which is a nice black and white unit with down imaging. They both claimed the biggest thing to hit sonar was color. They said they would take a high resolution color finder over a black and white down imaging unit every day of the week???

Release to the Grease are you sure you have a 640c because I was looking through the manual and I sure didn't think this unit has any GPS capabilities.

Sorry, I just looked at the title again. Mine is a Fishelite 640c, I guess it's the same unit but with GPS, apologize for the confusion.
