    Default HUmminbird 777c2

Ive got a humminbird 777c2 that Ive had bout 2 years, really like it overall. I was adjusting the sensitivity to be able to see a jig and ended up with about 13-14 on the overall sensitivity. Now I see plenty of "stuff" but very few "arches" from fish returns.
Question is, for those who onw and use this type sonar, what are your sensitivity settings. I think I may have mine "too sensitive"

    Tommyboyrn,
    Got some questions for you:

Where is the transducer for the 777c2 mounted?
What boat speeds is this at?
    What water depths?
Are you running the latest software version in your 777c2 unit (4.960)?
Did you have the SwitchFire menu set to Max Mode or Clear Mode?
Are you suing only the 200kHz, only the 83kHz or both 200/83kHz (Beam Select menu setting)?

    Yes
Have not used the Switchfire mode

It may be the speed of the boat in relation to the speed the fish passes through the sonar beams. How are the fish showing: as clusters of pixels or more as horizontal lines?
A fish arch forms as a fish moves into and than out of the sonar beam. If they pass through the sonar beam slowly they will appear as a horizontal line which can be countered with turning down the Chart Speed menu setting. If they pass through the sonar beam quickly they will appear as ‘blips’ or small groups of pixels which can be countered by turning up the Chart Speed menu setting. Setting the SwitchFire menu to the Max Mode setting will also help with the formation of an arch as the weaker leading and trailing edges of the sonar return may not be getting shown otherwise. These will be the farthest sonar returns as well and will help form the beginning and ending parts of the arch.

    Greg,
Diddo what DonG said. I have not upgraded to switchfire yet, I cannnot find a cable round here other than purchasing it and I hate to purchase a cable to use once....... but it sounds like I need to upgrade.

Well bought the cables and upgraded the sonar. Shame on humminbird for not providing more user friendly cables. The cables must go through a COM port which is not usually available on newer machines or laptops. I had to install one into my desktop before I could complete the update.
    Hope all this work helps

One other thing to try is change your Beam Select under the Sonar tab to 200/83khz. This will give you a wider cone angle for the fish to travel through to get your arches.

Well updated my unit and got the switchfire. All settings stayed the same during upgrade ( did I do it right? thought I was gonna have to redo them) Mainly used the max mode yesterday and didnt really see and "arcs" when moving over water, saw structure fine, but when moving over water what I assumed were lone fish looks like small globs on screen.
Also, when in max mode (I have surface clutter to 1 and noise reduction low) is it normal to have a solid red line at the top of display like at the water level?
    didnt try clear mode yet.
Sensitivity was set pretty high, so shouldnt that have allowed me to see more smaller items in water?
Just FYI, I have a quad beam sonar, using as a dual beam

They say you need to set all settings to default before the upgrade. A lot of folks had trouble when the settings were not restored to default before the upgrade . Maybe they fixed that
Good luck I have the same unit on the bow works good for me :D
