It's really hard to make a judgment without running another unit over the same spot and see what it shows. But, I don't think I'd be satified with what you are seeing. Not sure if hanging the xducer over the side would give you a quality picture. I have a 717 black and white unit which uses the dual beam xducer, it's pixtel count is 320x320, lower than my 778, but it still gives pretty good detail. How about I send you my 717, and you can run over some known structure with your 777, then back over it again with my 717. If your 777 isn't performing at least the same or better, take pictures and ask H/B what's going on. PS. I'm replying to your PM Thanks!

Ok, well I have a unit from shellback coming and then I was talking with a guy from work who has a 747c so I will try both units with my current transducers, take pics and post results.
Thanks shellback for your assistance, I do appreciate your help and generosity.

Default Just catching up on this thread

Tom, after seeing the new pictures I really don't see much improvement...Maybe a little but not much..

I think you will find the problem when you compare Shellback's unit & your friends unit with what you see on yours...

This has been a very informative thread and has helped me with adjusting my 777...I am pleased with mine now but still fooling around with the color pallettes..So far I like the gray best but am trying them all in different locations..

Looking forward to you future posts..

donG, I was messing around with those color palletts too, but never long enough to find one I liked just cause I was not seeing what I thought I should. I too am hopeful this will help me narrow it down. When I called humminbird, the service manager assured me he would get to bottom of this if I had to send it back. I will print pics, label them as to what they are, and send those too...

    Default Well....after another test.....

Okay. Shellback sent me his extra sonar to double check things seeing as how I have sent the unit to humminbird, and got two new transducers (one purchased and one sent).
So out on water today to double check things and to see what another unit with my transducers and setup would see

When I put shellbacks 718 on, I adjusted only a few settings. I changed view from inverse to structure ID, and decreased surface clutter. Sensitivity was set at 20, so I left it.
    So here we go........

This is on max mode with sens. at 20. everything else unchanged.

Same thing, settings unchanged- I think chart speed was at 5 or so. I like the arches. I may have to tweek mine some more to get those things right

And then last but not least, here is a pic of my sonar going over some of the same structure. Max mode, sensitivity ~ 12-13, chart speed ~ 7,

So by doing all of this, I am happy with what I am seeing now. Knowing that the other unit showed strikingly similar images to mine makes me more confident in my equipment. I guess since all this began back a couple of months, the only thing I did was get the new trolling motor transducer puck and stop using the quadbeam as a dual beam as well as tweeking my settings to get best picture possible. oh and send unit in to double check things.....
I will continue to tweek my settings in order to get best images possible i.e. chart speed, sensitivity, 200/83 or just 200 etc. etc etc.

Thanks to everyone for their input, advice and help.
if anyone has any questions about this please ask.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
