Hey Terry.
Jeff White had a similar problem. He now turns one on before the other to fix this phenomenon (fancy word for I dunno). Maybe he will tune in and tell ya what his "procure" may be.
I have a 798ci on the bow and a 997 on the console. They are connected with the Interlink. Lately when I fire them up I get the Interlink menu. when I select "fully participate" and "keep info on network" they go into sync mode and don't come back out of it. Went out and fired both up to see how long it would take to get done. Been almost 2 hrs and still trying to sync up. What's my problem. Just started do'n this recently.

I downloaded the GPS info from my 997 to an SD card and put them on the 798. I then transfered that info to the Network via the 798. Now when I start it up it asks if I want to "fully participate" and I answer yes. Goes right into active participation then with no issues.
That may change next time I go fish'n though. :D

I always fire up the 997 first, then the bow sonar. If you shut one down (I occasionally do), then turn it back on later, you'll get that question. If you happen to add a waypoint, it'll want to sync.
I also had the problem you're describing when I had more than 1500 waypoints, which is the practical limit when you're using an interlink (that's because it can sync a maximum of 3000 waypoints--1500 from each unit, even if they're all the same).
