    Default Hummingbird side imaging questions?

i am planning on ordering a new boat in the next couple of weeks. it comes standard with 728 hummingbirds on the console and bow. i am planning on getting something with side imaging. if i get a 3rd unit and it is a side imaging unit? will all the units interlink? am i better off to keep these to units and try to get an 1197c si nvb package or upgrade the 2 units and get 1- 998c si nvb and 1- 858c on the bow(or possibly an 898c si .is there enough benifit in the 898c si over the 858c? or even possible go with 2 -898c si 's front and rear. just trying to make the right decision . dont want to spend that much money on electronics and regret it later. any better suggestions would be appreciated. thanks in advance guys. phillip

I got the 998 for the console and 788 for the bow. Like them both but the interlink is still backordered so I can't comment on that yet.

We can only connect two units through the InterLink so you would have to choose which two units would like that to be if you go with the 3rd unit.
More and more guys are running Si sonar at the bow (with the Si transducer on the trolling motor or something of their own device) so you may want to look at upgrading both units or maybe upgrade the console unit now so you become more familiar with the Si sonar than later on add an Si sonar unit to the bow.
Most will agree that the bigger the display on an Si unit the better. This would be especially true of one bow where the unit will be farther away from you than it would be on the console.

No, not as far as I know, Slab. Would be nice though.

Like maj, I have the 998 at the console, and a 788ci at the bow. I like the setup. I don't need or want si on the bow myself. I got enough going on up there. Can't really comment on the interlink either, I'm waiting on a software update to be emailed. If I was you bigfish, and I'm not, I would just upgrade to units like I want instead of adding a third. They should be willing to do that. Just apply the cost of the units included in your boat package to the units you want, and you pay the difference.

No you cannot. This has been a 'Wish List' item for other units like the 997c Si but so far we have seen no software that will allow this.

What ever your decisionon the choice of units...I would definately consider NOT getting the NVB bundle...

The Navionics maps HB uses in the NVB are still the 2006 model maps.....

I would advise to save the extra $$ from the NVB and buy a Navionics card with a model year of 2009 or newer...

A little off topic here Rickie but we don’t make any NVB bundle units now.

That is a interesting point to note..about Hb not making nvb bundled units anymore...

    Off topic..yes and no....

Generally when someone denotes NVB in their typing of a model number (like bigfish did) ..they are leaning toward a nvb bundled HB unit...whether used, new, or whatever...

I'm just trying to help people understand that nvb bundled unit's have "older" 2006 version Navionics maps than what they can presently use in their choice of HB unit...

I understand Rickie – and I would not recommend anyone except saltwater fishermen buy an NVB bundle unit. I meant that my post was off topic in that we did not make units with this option anymore.
