Default Location of Side Imaging Unit

Where do you have your side imaging depth finder located on your boat? At the console with a transom mount transducer or on the bow of the boat with the transducer on the TM? What are advantages and disadvantages of either location? I am considering mounting mine at the console with the transducer at the back. Thanks.

That's the ticket. My boat has a tiller so mine is in the rear with me. Remember that side imaging is used as a search tool and operates best at speeds between 3-6mph. You may want to conider a swivel arm so that when you are up front fishing you can still see the unit.

I am sure that there are pros and cons at both locations, but I decided to mount mine on the bow of the boat with the transducer on the trolling motor. Thats where I spend most of my time at. I did take my older fish finder and GPS and mount it at the console for navigational and scouting purposes.

I spend 99% of my time on the TM so I wanted my unit on the bow with me....

I didn't want the transducer on the TM because I've heard that swiveling the TM causes the images to be skewed...so I built a deployable transducer bracket that I can deploy when I get in my place up front....

1 at each location. I use both.

I like having mine at the console with the ducer on the transom. I spend a lot of time searching water, it just makes more sense to me to have it at the console. I tried the trolling motor mount but sI just does not work that great up there with the side to side movement. Plus I am only on the TM when I am either closing in on structure or fishing it...
