I don't like to stress that collar by clamping and un-clamping it all the time. This holds the motor shaft forward and down which takes pressure off the stow claw linkage mechanism and prevents the shaft from moving. Some use a RAM mount stabilizer. It also stops any vibration while on the road and I don't worry about where the depth is set cause it never moves.
I think almost all the HDSI transducers are shielded but I don't know for sure. This set-up should work with any cable (< 1/4" dia) and transducer. I'd just be cautious of interference without the shield. But if you run your cable down the shaft of other troll motors, it should be OK here.
