Jerry: I would be happy to pm you some close-up photos, or I an post on the thread if anyone else is interested. Cray is right. There are some really good You Tube videos on the subject. They were very helpful for me when it came time to install.

Here is a link that shows how to do this step by step on youtube. Was pretty useful when installing mine.

What is the advantage of having the transducer on the trolling motor and not the back of boat?

Well first thing if your fishing from front of boat over timber and brush piles your looking real time at what your fishing. If trying to sit still over it easier to stay where you want to fish. Your looking at anywhere from 14 to 23 feet difference between the 2. If spider rigging you see what you pass over much quicker so you can adjust much quicker, mark way points easier.

So can I use the transducer that came with the Helix 5 DI-gps on the trolling motor? Or do I need to exchange?

Yes you can, only thing is you might pick up some interference. Yet I know several guys who use the DI transducer with no problems. The trolling motor mount transducer is made with extra shielding just for that. If yours has already been used I would try it first.
