I have got a new Minn Kota 80lb terrova i-pilot. My question is do you guy’s find it to be a loud or noisy motor when running? When I set it on #3 or greater it is loud to me and definitely isn’t as quiet as my old power drive V2.

I'm sure this has been covered but I recently replaced the battery for my minn kota riptide with ipilot and most of the issues with the spot lock are gone. I have been loving the spot lock even with the wandering off the spot by 15 -20 feet and then correcting. Figured that's just how it is and was happy anyhow. Well I bought a battery recommend here and it solved that extreme wandering. Set it last night in some stiff current and it hardly moved from that spot. In the past it would lag back and then motor back over and over again. Now it just stays put, not sure how the battery fixed it, maybe amps, more efficient use of voltage wish I understood. Either way I'm happy!

What make and size are you using?

Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Anchoring works better with current than no current... Same with wind vs no wind.

Got another question... I have the I-Pilot w/ Link Terrova in a 12V version. Runs and works great for the most part. Have had this problem happen twice now though and I am starting to be a little concerned. After the first, time I re-ran new wiring (in a heavier gauge on my boat). So the problem is if i run the trolling motor at setting 7-8 or above for 10 minutes or so, the motor cuts off and the remote loses the connection. Give it a minute, back off the speed, and I can get it to reconnect, but then it will only let me steer the tolling motor with the remote if I turn the motor off. For the most part, I troll when fishing down around the 1-3 speed setting so not such a big deal. And like I said, happened to my last weekend and I knew the gauge on my wire from back (where to the batteries are) to front was a little lite for a 60 amp fuse based pull. So I pulled new wire this past Saturday, but late was running from a point to a point with just the motor on full 10 speed setting and about half across had the same issue occur. Any help and/or advice would be great. Thanks.

My Terrova would cut off and on last year for about a month. It was determined that my 12v Interstate Battery had a bad cell which was only a year old. Interstate Battery Center tested the battery under load and replaced it free of charge. No problems since.

So, I would like to just throw some idea's out there. Some you may have already checked.
    1. Have 12v Battery checked under load
    2. Replace Remote Control Battery
    3. Try a different remote control

If none of the above fix I would have to take mine in to the Minn-Kota Service Center for repair.

    Sorry I couldn't help more.

Do you have a automatic reset circuit breaker or manual reset. Sounds like a circuit breaker tripping and resetting then everything else reacting to the voltage drop as it trips. Also like JRoach said weak battery could cause same low voltage problem under heavy load.

No circiut breaker on mine, have a regular fuse on mine. I am thinking of upgrading that to the circuite breaker though. I am going to pull the batter and have it tested, that is an easy first step.

These motors are supposed to be used with a circuit breaker. Also not be plugged in while charging. Sounds like amperage was not enough. Were you using any other features such as autopilot? For these motors in 12 volt versions I found a group 31 or dual 27s served best as they will draw a lot of power. Do you use an onboard charger to keep batteries conditioned? Is anything else drawing from the trolling motor battery?
