I have a terrova with Ipilot and have a HB 597C connected to the TM transducer today it was showing a depth of 97 feet and we were only in 8 feet of water. If I turned off the depth finder and tuned I back on it would show 8 feet then go rite back to 97 feet any ideas here
    Thanks

    RBeav,
If you can; try testing your 597c unit on someone else’s boat that is running a Humminbird unit (do not try this with a DI model unit) and try their unit on your boat. Plug up just the power and transducer for the testing.

See if this happens both with the trolling motor running and with it off.

I posted earlier in this thread how my 2014 Terrova 112# thrust 36V trolling motor would just shut itself off after about 12-15 seconds if I put it on a speed setting of 7 or higher.

I had folks saying it was voltage drop due to the length of the 8 gauge wiring in the boat. Sad to say, that doesn't seem to be the culprit.

Well, today I took the plunge.

I decided to find out if it was the 8 gauge wire that was causing my 112# thrust, 36V Terrova to shut itself off after operating on a high setting for 12-20 seconds.

Unfortunately, the wiring wasn't/isn't the problem.

I took all three batteries out of the rear hatch, temporarily relocated them to the front of the boat, wired the system with 6 gauge wire and took the boat to OH lake for a test run.

Pulled away from the dock and kicked the TM on high. 20 seconds later, the TM shut off. I turned the speed down to 8, turned the TM on....15 seconds later it shut off again. Turned it down to 7, turned it on, 15 seconds it shut off again. That's enough.

Load the boat on the trailer, go home and start taking the TM off the boat. With it comes the transducer for the 899 HB and I'm going fishing in the early AM.

So I start taking my old 101# thrust 36V TERROVA off the old bass boat. I install that on the Excel along with the mount and wiring for the HB 597 HD di (the transducer for it is on the old TM). I remove the mount for the HB 899 Hd di SI and park all that stuff in the garage.

I'll see if the old TM still runs all day on high without kicking off.

That reminds me, I need to swap out remote control units. The new and old remotes won't work on different motors, only on the motor they were designed for.

And Tuesday, I'll drop off the new 112# thrust Terrova at Tracker Marine in Hendersonville so Mike Smith, the MinnKota pro repair guy, can see if he can figure out the problem. Mike is only there Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday so it may be awhile before I get the TM back, thus the switch of TM's.

When I get an answer as to the nature of the repair, I'll post it so anyone thinking of buying a Terrova will know about a potential problem, if there is one.

Any chance you had fishing line on the shaft causing unwanted load?

No superx10, it had that problem from the first day I test drove it, before there was ever a fishing pole on the boat.

BTW, the old 101# thrust Terrova, hooked to the original 8 gauge wiring in the boat, ran wide open for about 1/2 mile til I reached my destination, never faltered.

It will stop when it hits the end of the recorded track. you have to manually hit the control to restart following the recorded track.

It's already in the shop. I'm using my old 101# thrust Terrova.
