    Default SI locking up

Does anyone else have a problem with their HB Si locking up? It will be working fine @ 2.3 mph then it locks up and won't scroll any more. Stays that way for 3 min or more. Sometimes it helps to shut it off and turn it back on. I have up dated the software. I have tried speeding the charting speed up and down, nothing. Between the locking up and the depth reading going from 12' to 786' I am almost sorry I bought the thing.

I have never seen this problem before. I would suggest checking or the connections. For your depth jumping around go under your sonar nenu and change your Water Type to Salt Water Deep and see if that help the problem and double check your installation.

Yea I here ya. I'm starting to think like Cane Pole, wish I'd just keep my money, or when with some other brand.

    Bill,
If the unit is showing 12 to 786 feet deep it sounds like it is losing its track on the bottom. When it does this the display will stop scrolling until it again finds what it thinks is the bottom. Here are some things to try/check:
    - Is there another sonar unit on? If so, turn its sonar (or the unit) off. Your Si unit may be getting sonar-to-sonar interference and can stop scrolling when the interference causes it to loose it track of the bottom.
    - As Joby suggested: check the transducer connector to make sure that it is plugging all the way in. If needed take the power and transducer connector out of the mount/connector holder and plug them in by hand to see if this helps or not.
    - Test your Si unit on another boat to see if this same thing happens and also test their unit on your boat. Connect only the power and transducer on each unit and there is no cause to be concerned about causing damage to either unit. This does not have to be the same model Si unit or even another Si unit as all you will be testing is the 200kHz 2D sonar here.

Mine locks up when I start the big motor. I was told I need a bigger battery. Why? The one I have cranks the motor just fine. My Lowrance LCX27 nor Garmin 3010C don't shut down when I crank up, so why the Humminbird?

It is aggravates the crap out of me.

My 987 Si unit started locking up this last weekend. Just showed....loading ..... on the screen. The only way I could get it to shut off was disconnect the power cord. Kind of a Pain in #$%^ when you are in a Tournament. JOBY NEED HELP

    Cane Pole,
I’m guessing that the difference lies in the current draw of the Humminbird versus the Lowrance or Garmin units or possibly in the wiring of one versus the other. Ways to possibly fix this would be to run separate power wires from the battery to the Humminbird unit and/or wire the Humminbird to a different battery.

    REDEYE50,
Is your 987 locking up when any other ‘event’ on your boat is taking place like; starting the main motor, keying the mic on a radio, the aerator kicks on, etc.?
Can you test your 987 on another boat that is running a 900 or 1100 series Humminbird unit (does not have to be an Si unit but any of the newer Si units will work for this test)?

My power/ground are home runs. Sure hate to add a battery. Costs money and I loose .2223 MPH off top end.

mine would just lock up with the loading screen and do nothing else. Sent it in and they replaced some circut board in it and it has work fine for the last three months.
