Tom I only hope I can get my 987c-SI and the New Matrix 97:D to share waypoint's and allow me to stay on them with the Matrix 97. If it will do that I'm a happy camper.
Now to save up to buy the interlink to hook them up.
I was hoping you were posting that they had fixed your issues and were out wearing the fish out.

They way I interpret this answer is that there is no fix for the gps. Sound like a hardware design flaw and can only be fixed with a replacement design.

Do you think there will ever be a more accurate GPS for the 797si?
Could HB do anything to help the situation, like a software down?

I don’t know the answer to that. I don’t think that a software change would help as it’s the current draw of the components that are used versus the design of the power circuitry of the 797 unit that is the issue.

Maybe I'm off base here, but if power supplied by the circuitry is the issue, wouldn't a software switch free up some amps to power the GPS screen refresh - such as turning off the 2D or SI sonar during full screen GPS function. Maybe there are some other feature that could be powered down.

Every time I tried to ask a technical question, I have been told that they can not respond to the question as it would give the competitor an advantage.

Sounds like a Robert Gibbs answer to me.

HB has yet to explain the slow response issues to us fellers and fellerettes that go slow. I get around the problem, but it should be resolved by HB, if, it is indeed a flaw in the design.

We are being stonewalled.

I like the SI , however the GPS sucks.

As I've used mine and pondered on the slow response, a thought crossed
my mind. Probably wrong, so feel free to shoot fulla holes

The most neato part of SI to me, is being able to cursor over and
mark things you see off to the side and behind you... What if: This is a purposeful, designed-in lag or delay in the heading update, so as to dampen changes in the boats
course and make this function work better (or at all)

Of course if this were the case, it begs the question why does it affect the
non-SI sister products as well. Again, supposing, but it would be far from the
first time something like this was done (I'm speaking broadly of all sorts
of mechanical things) as a cost saving measure, to lessen the number of
parts variations, easing manufacture.

Maybe this (or something) similar is why they are so elusive and mention
competitors as a reason for not talking?

On a side note, I've seen videos of the new Lowrance SI, but have yet
to see a cursor shown on the screen, or hear of being able to mark spots
on the screen like H'bird. Has anyone else? I mean I ASSUME it would have

I saw them mark stuff on the fly with a cursor Jeff (video). No delay.

Your "what if" is a good case. But, seems to me if this was the case, HB would have defined it and not have procrastinated about a fix or hide it's head in the sand hoping sand turds like me would go away. I believe HB should fess up and give us some direction.
