does any one know if DO-ITMOLDS has jumped on the wagon yet?
This morning I received the following email message from Jann's Netcraft-
Dear Richard:
We are contacting you to help us fight the proposed federal ban on all lead in fishing tackle.
On August 23, 2010, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was petitioned by the Center for Biological Diversity and four other organizations to ban all lead in fishing tackle under the Toxic Substances Control Act. This includes sinkers, jigs, weighted fly line, and components that contain lead such as brass and ballast in a wide variety of lures, including spinner blades, stick baits and more.
A lead ban would significantly add to the cost of fishing tackle. Alternative materials cost from 6 to 15 times more than lead.
The EPA has opened the petition for public comment. Please join us in opposing the ban by sending your comments to the EPA by no later than September 15th, 2010.
It's quick and easy to submit your comment by Clicking Here.
Please help protect our fishing rights today.

No it's not. The first one came out in the early 80's and it was for the most part defeated. That's pretty much when the individual states started with partial bans. Right now here in Vermont any sinker under 1/2 oz has to be non-lead.
It's ok for lead weighted flies, lead core line and jigs.

Corker, the 15th is coming fast. What are the next steps and when will we possibly hear of any decisions?
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.

Basically it's a review of the original EPA proposal that took place in 1994 and before. One of the worst parts of the whole thing is that the Federation of Fly Fishers is one of the backers.
View Rule
For anyone who doesn't want to read the whole thing here is an abstract of it:
In 1991, EPA issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking in response to a citizens' petition filed by the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), Federation of Fly Fishers, Trumpeter Swan Society, and North American Loon Fund under section 21 of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), and the Administrative Procedure Act (APA). The petition asked EPA to initiate rulemaking proceedings under section 6 of TSCA to require that the sale of lead fishing sinkers be accompanied by an appropriate label or notice warning that such products are toxic to wildlife. In 1994, EPA proposed a rule under section 6(a) of TSCA to prohibit the manufacturing, processing, and distribution in commerce in the United States, of certain smaller size fishing sinkers containing lead and zinc, and mixed with other substances, including those made of brass. EPA intends to re-evaluate the 1994 proposal.
Senator Tom Harken of Iowa got a Bill passed back then that blocked the EPA from pursuing the ban. The bill was called the Comman Sense in Fishing Regulations Act.
Needless to say gang, if everyone doesn't get off their collective butts and pass the word and get their comments in. I've passed it on to the guys at Master Catters, US Catfishing Association and Cast Boolits three other sites I frequent.
I've kept copies of this stuff for years just knowing it would come back around and here we go again.
Post your comments here,
Keep America Fishing
