I have been coloring feathers for over 30 years we used to do guinea for a commercial guy. He used to make flies up into cocktail glasses..
When I did my tails I also bleached them pretty close to white before I dyed them. It does make the hair a little rough but I was happy with the colors I got. This was my first time trying it so I'm not a professional by no means. I will try to post some pictures of them later with what I used for colorant.

Thank you will be looking forward in seeing your post. We picked up some more supplies today to do some more feather coloring with the powder pigments already got online today and my god you’re so many different colors powder pigment there are some terrific natural colors. We will try to get some of that powder later on because it’s colors of feathers that you do not see on the market.

I guess I should’ve posted this over on jig tying form.

I always use Borax and Dawn dish soap to clean my feathers!!! Besides you always want your feathers soaking wet when you dye them it takes better. White vinegar to set the color and IF you have an old pillow case squeeze out as much water as you can tie them in the pillow case and dry them on medium heat for 10-15 mins then plain air till dry.
