No, bob hasn’t tried it yet. I just got out of bed. We will get to it maybe today if I haven’t got too many honeydews.
That’s all we had when we were kids to drink at dinner time . That in fizzies.

OK guys we went and tried the regular coloring the oil base, which will not work because it is too. We’re leaving to stick to the feathers..
But what does the work is the powder that I use from the soup company? I’ve been closing pitchers I did not wash the feathers and soap to take the oil out of them or I did not add Vingadora to set the dye. This is just straight water that we used, if you do try this, make sure that you wash the feathers to get the oil off of them with regular dish soap and to ship the dye to the feathers used Vinatieri.

These are the feathers after they come out of the water or die bath.
Oh, I forgot to add to this. This is the powder that we use in the hot plastic on or baits.

The color looks great. Let us know how they end up once dried and completed. So far looks good. Thanks for sharing info.

It will probably be this evening or tomorrow before they are dry, but we will definitely post.

I tried some white feathers that some birds dropped on the lawn. Three packs of Kool aid and a half cup of warm water stirred well seemed to work. Your way sounds great too. Thanks for the update Bob.

This and adding a tablespoon or two of vinegar then microwave it a couple times is how I've had really good luck with dying deer tails. The vinegar is supposed to help it penetrate and lock in the color.

Did you heat the powder paint in hot water? Just curious as to how long you left the feather in the bath before drying. Wonder if the technique would work on some squirrel tails I have from some squirrels I shot in the yard this morning. Will it grow hair on a bald head,? Inquiring minds need answers.

Yes Mike, I’m heating the water. I think I could run it up to 137° or maybe warmer but you do need the vinegar to set the color which I did not add, but I will with a different color like I have a pearl purple, which should be pretty good. I also have a neon yellow, which is chartreuse. I will post later to see if the vinegar will make the colors sit deeper.

I have a lot of tails to try that out on but we will definitely make sure to add vinegar to set the colors.
I have been coloring feathers for over 30 years we used to do guinea for a commercial guy. He used to make flies up into cocktail glasses..
