I started out pouring lead about 20 years ago after our local bait shop closed down, mainly pouring sinkers and jig heads for fishing the Ohio River. A few years back I started getting into pouring plastic. Started out with some Do-It molds, then started buying molds from Jacobs, angling a.i., Fat Guys, Epic, etc. I have all types of molds, not just crappie. I even have a frog mold and I don't even bass fish..LOL! I constantly look for new molds, but havent bought 1 in about 6 months, much to the happiness of my wife. The funny thing is I originally got into it to make the color combos I wanted but couldn't find. Ironically, most of my colors I make that work best are basic colors, white, pearl, chartreuse, pink, etc. that you could get anywhere. The bait i crushed crappie on last spring was the Fat Guys Little Swimma 2.3" in pearl. They could not stay off of it. Probably gave away hundreds of them last year to my buddies.

I give away hundreds every year to my friends in youth groups and of course the tournaments and different crappie activities around the country.

I started pouring plastics when Yum stop making the Wooly Beavertail. It's my all time favorite crappie bait and til this date it is still the most expensive mold I have ever purchased. I can't dig myself out of the rabbit hole.

Securing a nice variety of lures is something most crappie people attempt. We normally do it through trial and error, and then we end up with a hefty pile of bought bags we no longer use.
    Fits me to a T!

Well same with those that make plastic baits, only they have way more excess. They get to explore, and experiment, because they can make what they imagine.
    Doube T!

But what I don't understand is why more anglers on this or any forum don't try making hybrid soft plastics with some of the access lures you own but that are buried away never to be used again. All it takes is a candle flame and a bit of an imagination or you could copy any of the 50 lures I've posted on crappie.com.

The difference is that THE LURES YOU CREATE WILL BE USED AGAIN AND AGAIN ONCE YOU'VE CAUGHT DOZENS OF FISH ON THEM!

Variety is the spice of fishing IMHO.

I have seen You Tube Videos on that slide technique. It appears to be really cool. They should have had that years ago when I was really into making soft plastic lures. I definitely probably would have bought that mold. Oh Well....who knows. One day that wife of mine night say "Go buy yourself what you want" Then I will have to choose between the new mold or a new truck. I must be dreaming. That decision is a no brainer. Well I vowed I would not be purchasing anymore molds. Now Print A Lure has a 23% off and BugMolds 20% so I have three more molds headed my way. I wish I could just say no.
