    Default Plunger mold question

Just tried my first batch off grubs. Did not go to well!!!!
First I have learned that .015 glitter is to small.
Second I filled the plunger up with heated plastic. Put the end in the mold and pushed the plunger SLOWLY. The plastic shot out all over the place between the plunger and the mold opening. Made a mess!

    What did I do wrong???

I'm assuming that you are clamping your mold. I hope that you were wearing protective gear like gloves . Run the temperature up under plastic to about 350° if you do not have a thermal meter you should pick up one. Put the injector head into the intake hole of the mold and first down firmly. Depending on the mold and cavities and what size of the bait you were shooting depends on how fast you shoot the smaller you go the faster you shoot. Go to YouTube and watch some videos if you need any more help please let me know also there's a lot of stickers on the upper part of this form where to buy stuff so forth and so on I'm sure that quite a few of the other guys will charm in here and help you out also.

I never did like plunger molds period. To me you really cannot get them tight enough to prevent hot plastic from getting on you. Having said that try putting the mold in a table top vise, wear goggles, gloves and a heavy apron for your protection. Wear shoes instead of flip flops also.

Then, as soon as you are financially able invest in a good aluminum mold. You will never regret it. Look at the safety tips at the top of this forum. Read it often. It will save your body a lot of pain.

Thanks Everyone. I figured it out. MY Bad!!!
The first run that went everywhere, never set up. I failed to shake up the jug. So it was thin.
Second try went a lot better except the plastic seemed to set up faster than expected and it pushed the mold open which was held closed with what I thought was a strong enough spring clamp. The temperature of the plastic was 320 degrees (3:30)microwave.
I have ordered some threaded clamps!

    Thanks Again

Your temperature should be closer to 350 here’s what we use for clamps get you two of them also here is a thermal meter which you should have to check the temperature of your plastic.

You need to get plastisol up to 350 initial heat and there after you can shoot cooler if capable. Make sure to stir plastisol well. I avoid shaking. I use Irwin Quick Grip Clamps. Here is a link: Amazon.com
