    Default Custom work

How in the world does a person get these mold makers to do anything custom for them or even do something to improve one of their existing products???I am confused....I have done business with Jacobs and e mailed him and asked if he could make a tail mold for the 2" paddle tail and the answer I got was I do not make a tail mold for that mold before that I bought a 2 color 1 1/2"grub mold from them and asked if they could make the same mold in a 2" size and they responded that they were too busy.I too am very busy but try to work with anyone that needs custom work or that has an idea of how I can improve one of my products.I'm not one to complain but I have got basically the same thing from other companies in the past and it gets old.....anyone have a cnc machine they want rid of.......lol

I guess that leaves a niche market to someone willing and able to do custom work.

I wish I had the skills that you, Snake River and others have. The fact is that I have been too hesitant to try and adapt some of the molds I have to add features with a Dremmel tool. I am also just too darn old to fool with the concepts any more........but then I say to myself just find one or two really old molds on ebay and give it a shot. I would love to do that one day.

Heck, that is why I made my "Buggie" with rubber legs. I was too chicken to take a tool and try and carve some bug legs on to the mold I have. Call Snake River (send him a PM for his number) and see how he is always able to talk directly with Rick. If anyone knows the answer to your question he or CTom will.

Me.....that question is above my pay grade.

Bugman....send me your mailing info by pm. I have Jacobs tail mold for the 1 3/4" paddletail. I'll send a couple down to you so you can check to see if they will work with your 2" mold. I've been looking at the differences in the tail sections and it seems the 2" has a slightly longer tail stem than the 1 3/4" and is smooth the whole way while the smaller has a more abbreviated tail stem. The mold I have makes a tail that is almost spot on 1" in length. I think if you were to use this tail you would be ok but the beaded area of the tail piece would have to be compressed. I don't think it would harm the baits a bit, but those with tails would look slightly different that the single color baits or those made using a twin injector or blending block. If you want to try a couple, just pm me.

guys I only make one comment here about mold and all the different mold makers. you will run into the same issues with most of them about reworking your I switched over to Lakeside molds to do all my custom work he stands behind everything 100% of he makes sure to satisfy you when you have a custom mold made by Lakeside he will send you a sample mold to make darn sure that you are 100% satisfied before he even starts cutting your molds do you know of any other mold maker that will do this for you I don't think so.

That is do-able but i'm wanting numbers and all the re-heating makes for a slow process not to mention what it does to your plastic after several re-heats.

I use to get some custom molds made, however when the business picked up they either quit making them or started charging a much higher price that I could not afford to pay. They seem to stay busy making molds and I guess if they are making money in the production of what they have then they do not want to take the time to work up the programs is what i am guessing. I was told it takes a lot of time to do a custom mold and then if they do not sell a lot of them then the time they lost producing what is selling cost them money. I can understand that. I know what you mean Bugman about the slow process and reheating, been there and done that. I hated it.
