    Default Ice baits

Here are a pair of plastics I make as ice baits. Both have a solid reputation and lots of people ask for these, mostly in glow colors....glow red, glow purple, glow green being the hit list for glow colors.

A while ago I bought a bunch of micro glitters only to find that they bled when used in plastics. As per my usual habit I hung the glitters and the baits I'd made on hooks in my tackle closet. And the other day a friend asked about some glow stuff so I got him taken care of and gave him a packet of each of the bleeding color plastics as samples. These colors are what you see in the picture. Came back saying both colors were a hit with the fish, thus a hit with him. He said "I want more. Lots more". lol Now I am glad I didn't toss that glitter.

The pinkish one is the most perfect cotton candy I have ever made. Apparently the purple in the glitter mix bled just enough to get the pink tinge in there. The cotton candy is made up of my bluegill glitter colors of blue, green, purple and copper. Its still pretty as cotton candy. The brown I guess I'll call winter crawdad. Its got red, orange, gold and brown glitter in it and I guess the brown doesn't care for heat.

I seldom throw out anything that I consider a flop only because I might be able to use it later on down the road. Such was the case here. My buddy might be the only soul on this planet that likes these bait colors but the fish also support his allegations. Sure glad I kept that glitter.

If they catch fish then you would hear no complaints from me.

I stumbled over glow purple maybe ten years ago while I was still on the ice fishing. Glow in color products were in their infancy yet, but I knew a tackle company owner who had an "in" with the pigments, high priced back then. He made up some glow purple jigs for me. Absolutely murdered crappies on them. About two years later everybody and their brother had the glow in color jigs available but purple was and still is one of the lesser colors, why I don't know. Darned good color. Now I make plastics and glow purple is one color I will not be out of because I use the color on open water too. The smaller of those two baits in the picture is a dynamite bait under the ice and in glow purple it probably should be registered as dangerous. Glow red is just as bad.

    "I Like those shoots"

Since I'm shooting Ice Baits myself you mind sharing those recipes ?

Do you just shoot clear with a touch of glitter, an glow powder
to get that bleed, or you have a touch of color added?

    Thanks

The glitter came from a hobby shop craft section and is about a .004 glitter flake size. Very small. Perfect for ice baits, but it does bleed like crazy. The glitter comes as an assortment on a card with about 12-15 packets of different colors on the card if that'll help any. No glow in the plastic, a little uv enhancer but not much and absolutely no colorant. I mix the glitter colors together, the full packet of each, according to the recipes in the opening post and then add about 1/3 teaspoon of the combo color to 4 ounces of plastic.

    Thanks CTom

As I have that assortment card you described and will try that Cotton Candy Mix,
just not sure if the card included copper?

Gold works in lieu of copper.

I use to have several molds of that bigger one and I sold them. Sometimes I wish I had kept them.
