I like baits in 2 - 2.5 inch range. the bait looks good. the design is very well proven in this area. Several lure makers around here make the same bait. I have 1000 plus Slab Buster, which share the same basic design as the carrot. It's sad to say Mr. Jacks baits have been sitting in the bait locker since I've benn making my own lures. I would like to see the tail of the bait alot thinner. I think it helps the action alot.

I was able to get out today and use this bait again, two limits in 2.5 hours! This bait doesn't look like much to some but I wouldn't trade it off - it has more than proven itself to me.

If you are concerned it is too big, trust me it is not, but the 2.5 crappie carrot tail mold will make this bait 1 3/4". The diameter and length of the tail mold is very comparble to most crappie baits.

I also have a slab buster/ slab hunter type mold however this bait has worked better for me the last two weeks. Although similar it is different.

That was the whole point of this bait to share simular design yet unique in its own way. I can't wait till this spring to try this bait out on Truman, should be a killer.

    Ted,

I'm with ya on that. I just ordered the mold a couple days ago and have a couple others being made. Look forward to ripping some piggies lips this spring!

this is another reason i chose not to buy the mold. I like a thinner tail too. However I knwo the bait will catch fish like it is. Just all in what you are comfortable with.

I am a little confused as to how to use this mold and hwo the tail mold can make the bait 1 and 3/4 inch. It jsut shows the mold itself as the whole bait from what I can see. I am not saying I have never caught crappie on bigger baits. My point was I catch more on smaller versions, and most people I fish with and know catch more on smaller versions. I have caught crappie on 1/4 rattletraps and big crankbaits, so I know they will bite bigger baits. It is a good design too. I fish with baits like that. Most crappie baits are similar, but sometimes it can be the slightest of differences that can make or break ya.

I just wish I had the money to buy them all. I would like to get this mold but might try to find one with a thinner tail. It would be great if he had a video of the mold being shot, so I could understand all of its options

    Crappieseeker,

It is super simple to make two color baits. The tail mold is the exact same design of the original, only shorter. You shoot the tail mold of 1.75" in one color, pull it out and lay it in the 2.5" mold and shoot that mold in a second color. The second color adhere's to the bottom color and makes a great connection which is durable and tough. What you end up with is a two color bait with the top .75" long and the bottom 1.75" long.

With the design of this bait the tail mold is the same diameter as the regular one, it will quickly taper from where the bait comes together. You can also buy the 2.5" mold, shoot the bait and then cut them with scissors or razors to what ever length you want - 2.25", 2", 1.75", 1.5" etc.

I've been experimenting with this bait a lot and have been very impressed with the results and the flexibility of it. I prefer the 2.5" bait but have been using the 1.75 with great success. I've also been cutting the baits at various lengths and still catching fish. You can take the 2.5 tail mold, which is 1.75" long shoot it one color, demold, cut with scissors, put it back in the mold and shoot two color baits which measure 1.75".

I'm also experimenting with shooting laminates, have made some cool looking baits but haven't figured out the two color injector just yet. I know where I made my mistakes and now just need to practice!!!!

I'm glad there are mold makers who are starting to make crappie molds and I'm excited to see the different baits available. I looked for about three years before I was able to get my hands on my first mold, it was custom and very expensive. It's great to see some good designs at reasonable prices.
