I like braid when I am slip float fishing because it goes through the float easy and when I got hung I can usally pull the hook off bending it a little, or I use braid when dipping or dead sticking in heavy cover because it wonk knick up....I have the one pole that I pretty much only jig fish with that I use the fluro on....the rest and most of the time its the trilene xl for me 10 lbs test on my crank bait rods (forgot to put that in last time) or 6 lbs or so on most of my others. I dont think I would be happy with just one kind of line, I think diff lines for diff methods work the best (leist for me anyway), but my fav brands are trilene, berkly, and power pro.

I believe BPS Excel mono is now mfg'd in China. A site discussion on lines brought that up. Mr Crappie mono is now, also, made in China ... and some have mentioned that it doesn't seem quite as strong & limp as it formerly was.

Trilene's parent company (Pure Fishing) now owns Stren. But, I haven't heard complaints about it being any different.

I use 4lb test Mr Crappie Super hi-vis mono on most of my Crappie rods .... but, it's from a 3300yd spool that's labeled "Made in USA". I also use BPS Excel mono on some rods .... but, again, the spools are from the previous mfg's (& not from the China made series). I do use braid on one outfit, too .... PowerPro 10/2 hi-vis.

I've also used Stren Gold 4lb test mono, and so have some of my fishing friends, and some still do. It's pretty good line, IMHO. I've also used several different Trilene lines, and for the most part they were good lines as well.

When it comes time to purchase new spools of mono .. I'll probably follow DonG's example, as I trust his opinion on such matters. His fishing techniques are much the same as mine, and he's been around the block a few more times than I have (with changing line brands) .... so I'm confident that his choice's are well tested.

P-Line CX hi-Vis in 6lb. gets my vote! You can see the hit when shooting boat docks, might go to 8lb. in the same line fishing brush piles! Strong , low memory, and you can see it. For those of you fishing clear lakes, tie back with a 6lb Seagar Invisex Flouro leader!!!!

Trilene XL 8 # on my push poles, XL 6# on my nightstalk rods, and 6# Mr. Crappie Hi-Vis green on my longlining rods. I used 4# for a long time on my nightstalk rods and didnt see any difference when I up'd it to 6#.

I do not try to keep up with the companies anymore they buy each other out so the performance of fishing line may very. I have tried braided stuff before but only for crank bait casting I got away from it right away I didn't like it at all. We pretty well stay with stren over the years and I've actually fell in love with the stuff because it outperformed many of the other lines on the market. But were not want to test a lot of fishing line we have used maxima which I didn't care for all and we have used other ones in noise went back to my original. Yes we do by fishing line and big spools . Thank you for this very interesting post that you've made I find it very helpful in selecting lines also very well put for information for the other guys that are researching monofilaments. I've always wanted to try Mr. crappie but I have not bought any yet it is not available in sporting-goods stores here I've only seen it and mail order catalogs. The good majority of the panfish are one in the state use Stren . At least the guys that I know do.

I'll be sure and rig it on my primary jig casting outfit, and have it ready for the Oct Slab Slaying Adventure to Watts Bar (tentatively occurring the 21st-24th)
