Default Building Fish Habitat on Lake Degray & Lake Greeson in Arkansas

The Centerpoint FFA will be partnering with the Corp of Engineers to build approximately 160 bamboo crappie condos. These condos will be placed in Lake Degray and Lake Greeson. This project has already been approved by the Corp. They will be providing the concrete, while the FFA will provide the buckets, bamboo, and manpower.

All of the spots where crappie condos are dropped will be marked by GPS. The Corp will make these coordinates available to the public. I'll make sure to get them and post the waypoints on here.

I will be the one coordinating the logistics of this project. Starting off, I'm trying to find plenty of 5 gallon buckets and bamboo. We'll probably cut a lot of the bamboo off of my property, but I'm sure we'll need more. I'm pretty sure the school cafeteria and a local bakery can supply us with enough buckets. (I hope!)

This should be a great learning experience for the students. I'll try to keep everyone updated on the progress of this project.

For those of you that don't know, the FFA is the student organization branch of Agriculture Education in public high schools. I'm an Ag. teacher.

*pending my high school principals approval, which shouldn't be a problem*

Send the students on a scavenger hunt for buckets and old Christmas trees. You'll have all you need.

What a great idea. Future Farmers farming for Crappie! I'm almost positive that the crappie will grow better than our hay crop the last two years.
Make lots of pictures for the rest of the FFA clubs to see.
I think it's like a Crappie "Stimulus Package". Maybe we can get congress to ear mark some money for us poor fisherman.
    Great Project!:D

    Default Buckets

Go to lowe's or home depot or both and show them what your doing and they will give you the buckets. Have a picture taken with you and the manager of the store, get it put in the newspaper and tell them this gesture will garner business from local fisherman for years!

Spoke with the principal......got approval. We've just got to work out some details regarding permission slips, life jackets, which days, etc.

Hopefully we'll get started building soon.

Sounds great! Post lots of pics. I stopped by Krogers today and got 4 icing buckets and lids. There readily available if you know where to look. Dry wall folks and painters would be my next places to check. When dry the leftover materials just peel right out leaving a nice clean bucket.
