tell me again how you have the couplers inserted into the ball? In other words what keeps them in place when you put the 3' piece of pvc into it?
This is the toilet tank float I was describing in the thread posted by Crappiecrazy earlier.

Take 1/2 pvc pipe and cut off some 2" pieces . Glue the 2" pieces into 1/2 " pvc couplings. Just stick the coupling with the short nipple in the hole and glue in with hot glue. I can get 17 of these in a standard tank float. There is a piece that sticks off the ball that is made to thread onto the rod in your toilet, use this to attach your wire and brick to sink it."

Thats a pretty good idea. How would it work if a guy took 1/2 pvc caps drill a hole in the end a screw it to the ball.Youd think that would eliminate all the hole drilling. Then all you have to do is glue your pvc fingers into the caps. May have to give that a try.PJ
That might work. The only place you will have a problem is around the middle of the ball, the plastic is real thin there. I have put some together with construction adhesive (liquid nails) . It worked well but took a while to set up.The hot glue has been the cheapest thing I could find, be sure and put a good bead around each one. They are hard to see on the DF, I usually put a strip of foil tape on a couple of the arms and it shows up really well.
Oh yeah, I made a mistake on the uni-bit size. You will need one that will make a 7/8's hole not 3/4.
Hi Sticksteer,
Here is another idea to weigh down the sphere....You can put some bricks on one of the pvc pipes and put a pvc t fitting on the end...I used this method for the porcupines I have dropped in my buddies pond...Just another idea...

Thanks

I did my first one today. Man, does this ever have options. Stacking 2 or 3 together, adding long pieces of pipe to the second or third one to form a tree, make a circle out of them with a few 90's or 45's. And each ball could be drilled with small holes and filled with cat or dog food. And the best thing, they don't have to be put together before going to the lake and they won't take up much room in transporting.
I wonder if you could get some quick crete in there to help weigh them down but mostly to stabilize everything inside from moving? instead of putting 17 couplers in there you could just put 16 and use the last hole to fill up with old lead and quick crete to weigh it down plus you could put in an eye bolt to tie it off. Might help if you want to suspend them off a dock.Originally Posted by sac-a-lait
Might be able to go to Wally world and pick up some of those cheap rubber balls that the kids always want for a buck and fill them up too? once the couplers are in and the quick crete sets up they would be pretty strong.

Rdant, when I put the cat food or dog food in them I usually wait until it is assembled on the water then pour it down 1 or 2 of the legs. Take some bread or old rolls and plug the pipe with it, it will disolve pretty quick and release the food thats in the leg. Like Smitty, I want to suspend my next one I sink by attaching a large jug to the the top and suspend it in 20-25 ' of water.
