Another thing you need to do if you are planning on making a square matt is throw our 4 bouy markers to mark each corner and this will give you some parameters of where you have driven and want to drive stakes
I have my stake driver built. I have my stakes cut. What is the best method to control the boat while driving the stakes in the bottom of the lake? I figure to anchor both the front and back of the boat. Drive the first row of stakes in the bottom of the lake. Let out 1-2 ft. of anchor line at the front and back of boat and then drive the second row of stakes. Repeat the process until the desired size of stake bed is achieved. Does anyone else have a better method?

Good luck. I have thought about building a bracket in my boat. That I can drop a 2" pipe down through. And use one in front and back to hold the boat in place. May have to give it a try.
