granular 2, 4D or its sold around here as Navigate in 50 pound bags. It kills from the roots up. or glyphosate mixed with a sticker. it will kill the lilly pads, but many times not the roots, so they will come back next season.
I've got the big leaf lily pads in a 5 acre pond. What is a good poison to kill it to the root? Thank You

Regular glyphosate is NOT approved for use in ponds. Glyphosate Custom is approved for use in ponds for emergent plants. There is a difference.

What ever type of chemical you use that takes care of the problem this year has to be applied prier to seed pod maturity. The seed pod can stay dormant for a few years so it may have to be applied over a couple years.

Who would sell Glyphosate Custom, a feed store? Thanks

Glyphosate is the active chemical. There are a bunch of aquatic use glyphosate trade names that approved and readily available. Roundup custom is what George was talking about. Make sure you use a surfactant if your going to use a liquid chemical.

I hope I don’t get arrested for this but I killed lily pads in my pond with regular old glyphosate. Most of the 41% stuff already has a surfactant in it. The trick is to spray when there is little wind/waves. The stuff has to dry on it for it to work. That being said, I’d mix it a little heavy. I’ve also used navigate for underwater weeds. Around here it sells for $100/50lbs.
also, don’t kill everything at once. Decaying vegetation requires oxygen, too much can at one time can cause issues.

Sometimes, swimming goats would be nice, wouldn't it?
