    Default pvc condos ??

Is there a trick to finding pvc condos once they are dropped. I put out 9 buckets with 8 or so 5ft peices of pvc last summer. Went back today with the gps ..had to crank the sensitivity up to 100 % on a Lowrance lms 339 and I'm still not for sure I'm on them...the GPS says yes..but i thought 9 buckets in a tight circle would have a stronger image. They are in 17ft of water on a flat..so I know they have not moved..How good does pvc show up..? This is the first time I've tried all pvc ..tree tops are my normal.

Question What did your jigs "say" ....

when you cast them to the condo's ?? Did you feel the jig hitting the PVC ??

The PVC may not show up very well ... but, the buckets should have !!
Suffice it to say that, if you had trouble "seeing" the PVC, on your DF unit ... others may have a more difficult time finding them. That's a good thing. As long as you have the GPS coord's, and a general triangulation, you should be able to get back on the condos.
Even with a GPS ... I'd still run a "line of sight" mark, between two objects that won't be going anywhere, anytime soon. At least, then, I could line myself up and troll back and forth over the spot ... until I got the DF reading set to pick up the condos (or, at least, the bucket circle). Remember - a 20deg cone angle, in 17ft of water, is only showing a 5ft circle of the bottom ... and even a few seconds of inattention, or a slight breeze, can move your boat off the mark. Dropping a buoy marker, nearby, will help you retain your position ... relative to the condo's .... cp

well I don't put them on public waters but my understanding is the wording of the law has been changed to not include all plastic pipe but to allow pipe with smaller diameters. The MCC just did a pvc build at Eagle. The dept show you how to make them on the dept's website. The ONLY person I know who might have a problem with it in the ENTIRE state of Mississippi is one dude who works in the Delta for the dept. PerchMaster knows who he is.

Hey Rob, That's a friends lilttle ole lake out in Raymond. WE're trying to get those crappie up to respectable size. Thanks for the info though Rob. You're doing a GREAT job!!!

I think the rules are now written that no 55 gal plastic drums. If not, then the Dept broke the law on Eagle Lake. I don't think the rules say "no pipe, unless you have a note from the dept."

Hey Rob...If I wanted to place something in RB, I have already called the dept and the water district...YEARS ago!!! And it's all good. Green Light.

Yea Rob...NOT all of us have to work for the state! Some people actually have $$$ and can afford a nice lil ole pond.

And as far as the regs being changed I'm just going by what your own guy WROTE and said the WORDING was changed to address the situation. If not, then where does it say something about "ok with note from dept", or is that something the good ole boys just started doing? Talk about selective enforcement!!!

This is like beating a dead horse. I said ONLY ONE PERSON in all of Mississippi would have a problem with it...and guess who showed up!!!

HEY ROB, thanks for the quote "It is unlawful to place structures such as plastic or metal barrels, hot water tanks, concrete pipe, tires and other non-biodegradable materials in any public waters of the state." I GUESS THEY DID CHANGE IT!!! I don't see plastic pipe anymore AND pvc pipe is biodegradable...At least a good attorney would argue and win that one. THANKS DUDE!!! Keep up the good work!!!

This one sounds like it has turned into a Peeee ing contest. I do respect the laws of this state (KY) and the guys who enforce them. I was checked yesterday and the couple of officers was doing thier jobs in a nice way. They even complimented our catch! We all have a job to do, go along to get along.

    Fischer,
When making condos with PVC pipe, I've started dipping the ends of the pipe into the concrete and rolling them around. Then I flip it over and stick the other end into the mix. The concrete will dry a thin layer around the top of the pipe. It even drys quickly and you can put a second layer on the tips for strength. (do a batch of pipes at once). I dropped on like this last Sunday and instantly see the "stump" of the concrete base along with a few "fish" 5 feet higher. I've also placed balls of aluminum foil in the tips.

Of course, this does make your structure visible to all but that's a risk I'm willing to take in a umpteen thousand acre lake.

Maybe y'all need to come to Arkansas and see the Arkansas Game and Fish boat ($53000) that they use to jump tires, brush, rocks, and yes bamboo buckets that are made of plastic buckets.

don't see any stringers of crappie from MS like you see on Jerry and Darryl's web sites. They even have the Game and Fish doing what they say.
