    Default Broom/Mop handles

    Hi,

Has anyone ever tried using broom/mop handles for cover in a bucket type condo?...I helped my family clean out my grandpa's house today...He is in the nursing home now...I found about 4 brooms and 4 mops that have clean clear wood handles...I also found another few more brooms but they have painted wooden handles...Will it hurt to put those in the water with paint on them?..Or should I use some sort of paint thinner to clean it up?...

I also found some big pans use for cooking...They are as big as a 5 gallon bucket as far as diameter wise but not as tall.....I am thinking about using them to make condos with concrete....Anyone have any tips on how to get the concrete out of the big pans once the concrete has dried up etc?....

    Thanks

Hey there Jeremy, The mop and broom handles will work just fine. No more paint than are on them the algae will cover pretty quickly. I would not suggest using the metal pans though because they will be hard to get out of. Thw best thing that you can use is to go to the Dollar store or Wal-Mart and get the plastic 18 qt. dishpans for 2.00 each. Just keep popping these off and re-using them.
I read where one guy had access to a mill that made hardwood shovel handles and he got all their culls.

Sounds good! Like anything else that you want to embed in concrete, drill a couple of small hole in the bottom 2 to 5 inches and use a fairly good sized screw for better bondage!

Hey jcd, I made some forms out of a few buckets by cutting the bottom out of the bucket and cutting it long ways. Then overlap the bucket about a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch and put a few screws in it to hold it together. Put in your wood and pour in the concrete. When the concrete sets take the screws out and the bucket comes apart and all that is left is concrete and the stake bed.
I also get my wood from a local sawmill for $5.00 a truck load for the perfect size along with my bamboo that I cut they make great sets.

Did you ever get any of that Bamboo we talked about?
