    Default Fresh or dry bamboo

Which will last longer. Sink the boo when it's fresh or let it dry out then sink?

We have dropped it freshly cut or dry....I really don't think it matters...I like it with all the leaves and stuff on, it just gives little fish more cover! I wish it just lasted longer!

How long you do they last? 3-5 years would be worth it

A lot of variables goes into it, but some people can get that long out of 'boo (3-5yrs), and some only get 1-2 years!
Like a Christmas tree, the main trunk will last quite a while, but it is the leaves and small branches, that serve the best purpose for Crappie.....and they may come off quick.
Fertile water/stained water, with alot of algae, zooplankton, micro-organisms, bacteria, etc., will speed up the breakdown of Natural material. Some Tannic water will preserve it!
Sunlight/depth, also has a Big effect on how fast something decomposes in water, along with water temp...higher temps speed decomposition, while colder temps slow it down.
Fishing Pressure also factors in to cover life...if you fish it alot, you are constantly tearing off leaves or small branches, after time this takes away from it's effectiveness also!
I have seen guys that are now just using the Main Canes to build cover (Like Using PVC pipe)...they are cutting bunches of canes, to the size they want, and putting them in buckets/etc. and sinking...these 'Boo Cane Buckets, are thick at the bottom like a stump, and open up to more spaced cover at the middle and tops. When dry they are also lighter and easier to handle!

Whatever you do...anything is better than nothing!
You really have 4 MAIN choices in choosing what type of cover to put in!
Do you want to build cover that needs replaced often...do you want to build cover that may need to be replaced several times in your life...or to build cover that will not need to be replaced in several lifetimes....or a combination of those! Then you can choose the different kinds to match what you want to do!
