    Default structure placement ?

I built 9 new buckets today, and I"m wondering you think its better to put several of them in one place and make a large attractor, or place each by itself and have 9 different places? Theres not much structure in the water where I'm wanting to put them to begin with.

Try 3 or 4 together. Or 9 different places isn't bad either. Good luck. It is addictive when you get started putting stuff out.
Take you kids fishing today!!! They will be grown (and married and have children of their on) tomorrow. Then you can take your GRANDKIDS!

im just wondering, will there be 25 crappie around 1, or will it take 3 or 4 buckets to draw a gang of em? May try groups of 3 in three different spots. Just happen to have 3 xmas trees I picked up and haven't sunk yet, may make a triangle with the tree in the center. I'm sure I'll make some more.

Splashing those in singles will only work well if you are trying to draw them to a LARGER area....if you know how the Crappie move around your lake between spawning, feeding, and suspending areas, you can control their movement by placing singles they can follow between areas, and then installing a large groups in their favorite areas....then they will move along these areas to feed etc...and it will continually draw in new fish!
It really helps to vary your cover so the areas can hold minnows/baitfish, craws, small organisms, and so you have a complete ecosystem.....then you get the best BANG for your $$ and time!

Agree. We have found as a `rule of thumb` that denser cover shallower and thinner cover deeper works well, ie, "C" trees in a line tops towards the shore with PVC at the deepest end works pretty well. And am not saying not to put out a single "C" tree by it`s lonesome. According to ODNR`s research, a single "C" tree by itself affects an area about 2-3X it`s volume. In groups of 2-4 they affect an area roughly 3-4X their volume. In groups of 5-12 they affect about 5X their volume; after about a dozen, the area effected is constant . Am NOT saying a single tree sunk in a `hunny spot` won`t do well...Also, in rows shallow to deep you are covering a lot of the water column; especially in mid spring and early fall, they can be very productive for many species of fish...

i have several of these out and i seem to do better if i have 3 or more in an area just a few feet apart. they tend to hold more fish that way. and have to make less stops to get a limit..

I favor smaller here because of fishing pressure. Too easy for folks to find and then keep them fished out if too big. Not much good if everyone is always fishing them. I like lots of smaller tops spaced out about 75 to 100 feet apart.

We like the Pallet type with rocks on corners to sink(Nimrod special style) We have found putting them in a circle about the size of a 20' ft boat!!! just on the edge of a flat where it drops to deeper water say 10-20 ft seem to be the magic depth!! Eaiser to find when water levels rise or fall!! Bucket type should work also!! Should hold fish!!
