Are you sure you want to grow bamboo? Once it starts to grow you can't keep it from spreading all over every where. It spreads like wildfire. Find you a few stalks and plant them this spring, by nex year you should have a pretty good crop going.
I am wanting to start growing some cane/bamboo. How do you go about doing it? When can I plant? How long does it take to grow to a usable size?
thanks

If you do plant it you'll probably wish you had'nt. Make sure you plant it in waste land that never sees any kind of rubber tires.
If I dont ask its my fault for not knowing
I had to laugh when I saw the question because I was thinking the same thing. I don't know anybody that planted it and then wished they hadn't. The roots spread underground so it is extremely difficult to control.
Now if you got a neighbor you don't like, you could plant some on the edge of your property and then keep your side mowed real close.
I know around here there are numerous patches of it and most folks are more than glad to let you cut all you want. Also look along highway right of ways. Sometimes it get started between a frontage road and the Interstate. That is where I got some last year.
Mark 1:17 ...I will make you fishers of men
But I can get you a start if you want to grow it. Does best in low spots with good sil and plenty of moisture. It is a grass and grows wild once established!

Fine by me I'm gonna plant it in an overgrown area. I was just wondering how long before it was tall enough to be used.
Just lay stalks down and cover with a little dirt, each joint will root and you'll be in business
