If they aren't hard wood they will not last very long at all. They would not be worth they trouble to me. Just my $.02 worth,
I can get an unlimited supply of untreated pallets that are big and light weight ..I was thinking maybe attach a few together with a few "brush " like material between the slats .. think that would work for structure?? Seems like it would naturally break down over time and would pollute the waters ... thanks!

The main thing is the price is right. I would think they would last a year or two, which is all christmasn trees last, until there is nothing but truck and the big part of the limbs. Christmas Tree's I have put out have gone from a 4' structure to a 2' structure with in 1'2 years.
Just about everything will break down over a period of time, except PVC and/or plastic of some kind. I have always been a believer in taking what you have available at little cost and make structures to benefit your crappie fishing. So I would say use what you have. I would say, and have seen "A" frames made from pallets, with brush struct in the cracks of pallets. Although I have nevver had pellets to work with, saw no reason that they would work out great.

Yea I was concerned with how long they would last .. maybe ill tie one up somewhere just to see how long it would last ..the cost of the pallets will be free ..hmmm now I'm wondering if it would be worth the trouble ....

I just use pvcs and drill holes in a big one and place small ones in almost like an * type shape with poles hanging all out,It grows alge that will hold bait fish. Just be carefull for the wood can rot and will be gone quickly
They're used quite a bit around here. They make them into an "A" frame type structure with with the weight on the bottom. As long as you're getting for free, I wouldn't mind how long they last. You could also combine both PVC and the Pallets if you wanted do.
The osage orange will last 20+ yrs underwater in most ponds and lakes. TOUGH to beat it...
I put some in a lake by me 4yrs ago, these where some cheap palletts I got from work connected 3 of them together to form a triangle box made 4 of them and droped them in 20' water about 5' apart they are still there today as I can see them on my DI system on the boat.
Have caught many fish of these over the years.
exactly what I was talking about , guess i should have read all the qoutes first
