I hung up on something when I was jug fishing one time and after getting a rope burn trying to pull it in I found out it was a tangle of old steel pipes. It was in about 5 feet of water and was about 1 foot under water just out from a ramp. Now that was stupid. God knows how many props got ruined on it or holes knocked in boats. I drug it up to the bank and left it.

I hear about people sinking cut up trash bags so now I am worried about burning up a new motor because of piece covering my lower unit.

These are acts of selfish stupidity and the reason everyone has to pay.
I think the mistake a lot of us make is thinking the state-appointed shrink is our friend.

Your post explains why "the man" has to regulate these kinds of things. It's not the stake beds or any bed for that matter that is placed properly. It is the beds placed by people who don't give a rip about others.

Now someone tell me how a bunch of trash bags sunk in the water is supposed to do anyting for the fish. I mean it will tear up and won't last.

I agree whole heartedly that there are places that structure just shouldn't be. The problem is that the these people feel like they own the water.

but I'll be dogged if they're gonna stop me from building tops
So what you're saying, sac-a-lait, is that you will continue to place pvc structure in the water even though the regulations state that it is now illegal? You even go so far as to mention that you will do it under the cover of darknes.

    What's wrong with stake beds?

    He is.:D

And he IS right. You really can't choose which laws you will or will not obey. Since it is illegal to use PVC pipe now, why not go with all the Cane and Bamboo growing around down here. Shoot that stuff grows almost as fast as kudzu and is dang hard to get rid of if you want to. And as a plus most people want you to cut it down. And it's free! And bio-degradeable. Yes I know that means you will have to re-do you sweet spot.......... but at least it is not as bad on boats, props and lower units.

If you are worried about the air in the section why not split it down it entire length them put it in a bucket with concrete. Heck seems like if it ain't drawing fish in one spot you could pull it up and sink it in another. Heck you can even lower it down with a rope and make sure it is upright and placed EXACTLY where you want.... can you say GPS.

What gets me peeved more than anything..... other than people tossing fish on the bank at the Rez spillway, are the guys that mark stumps & logs with a stick of re-bar hammered into the top.......... ride around the Rez when it's low and it will scare the beegeebees out of ya!

    Just my opinion.............

Hey John I agree about the rebar...That is STUPID...PVC damage a prop? COME ON!!! That stuff get's brittle once it get's cold 2 or 3 times...Most of it the side walls are VERY VERY thin...I would much rather hit a 3" pice of PVC pipe that a STUMP, FLOATING LOG/LIMB or a piece of that REBAR you mentioned....

227...We'll of course I'm gonna tell you I'm not doing it ANYMORE...But the Dept doesn't regulate what goes in the R B REZ anyway...That's owned by the PRVWD...IMO....Oh and I think I could make an argument (if someone were to get caught doing it) that PVC will break down...Water IS the universal solvent isn't it?

from reading the mdwfp fishiing forum, even the concrete used to hold the cane together is illegal. i'm planniing to use stake beds and cedar tops tied to stumps. i'm sure most of us are law abiding sportsmen and would not intentionally break the law, but this new hand grabling regulation will sure make it harder for us to put out structure that will improve fishing for everyone. lower units and props be hanged. stumps and logs and rocks will total out more lower units and props than some little old crappie condo. CHEEEEZ. I've been running outboards for the most part of 50 years and never have i had the opportunity to run over a crappie condo with my outboard, but i have left a blade stuck in a stump a few times.
i am dismayed because the mdwfp in the past has encouraged the building of crappie condos. even went so far as to post pictures and directions on the forum. now we are told that all this is not legal. the question is "Where do they stand?" HAVE A GOOD DAY and catch a lot of crappie gentlemen and ladies.

Default Sounds Like the Dove Field Baiting Law

You can ask 5 game and fish officers about what's a legal way to plant a field for doves and get 5 different answers on what's legal and illegal. It doesn't make any sense.

I read a bulletin about top sowing wheat and feds say it's totally illegal then another bulletin by the state wildlife said it was legal as long as you seeded at the normal agricultural rate.

If memory is still right it is illegal to cut cane in MS. You can cut Bamboo but river cane is illegal.

If you sow wheat on the top of the ground dont do it two weeks prior to the opening of dove season..why would you, your inviting a visit and a distruption of the hunt just lightly disk it under. Those doves dont have a problem picking out the seed. I would rather work a couple hours longer than have to stop and let a GW review the field.

Ok............. can't cut cane and can't use concrete.

Has anybody tried making structure from treated wood?

1x6x6 fence boards are going for .99 at Home Depot and seems to me you could make some kind of structure and sink it with rocks. Being treated it would last a while submerged, heck I guess you even don't need it treated.

Also does anyone have a basic plan for what would be the best condo?
