Yes. I've fished the chain since I was a kid with a flyrod. Nothing like those springtime crappie. However the aging chain is in need of a bit of dredging on the north channels. The Norshore channel made me cry two years ago when I went in past the North Ave. bridge. It was about a foot and a half deep. Silted in. Small pods of gills and that was it. Now the people who live on the lake front who don't like the weeds can get permits and buy weed killer and kill off those nice weed beds. Now I'm just getting back fishing for crappies after years of bass, walleye and muskie fishing. I like to take a shortcut once in a while so I called and talked to THE biologisst for the Fox Chain and got the scoop about the shape of the chain and the great numbers of crappies in it. There was a Pro Crappie Tournament held there a few years back. I also have a boat on L. Michigan and been getting on the salmon for 11 years. Winthrop Harbor has LOTS of panfish in it and have see crappies over a foot long caught in there. Good talking to you Peepaw. You hear about that hog muskie caught on the chain recently?

Ray, I know all the spots your referring to. I also have fished the local area for over 40 years now and have seen the chain change drastically as well. I fish salmon more out of Kenosha than winthrop, but have fished them both a lot for panfish, pike trout etc. with good results over the years. I live 10 mins from the chain, we got to get together and share some stories and spots....oh and fish!

I like anything that will hold itself off the bottom. No need smashing down half of your brushpile.

I agree, the ONLY downfall to adding brush is how fast it does settle down and flatten out. Won't have that problem with our cribs!

Sounds good to me, peepaw. I have the GPS coordinates for all the DNR fish cribs on the Chain and they are in KEY spots. Have you ever spider-rigged for crappie? You can reach me email [email protected].
