Try placing them in more still waters. A high wind on a big lake will create a recirculating current, even if the damn is not releasing, or the flow coming into the lake is light.

Try drilling a small hole all the way through in each section to let the air out. That way they won't be so buoyant.
jhef, I did the same thing when i first started droppin em!! Real careful where I drop them now. It amased me the current could take em.LOL-Reckon I got some around the Dam by now!!!

Have been there. Now I go overkill. I want the trees to drop from sight as fast as a stone would purt near. I sent a couple hundred bucks worth of crab traps on a 1 way trip in the Intercoastal Canal many years ago and that really hurt,
