Man I can see it now.. That stuff will be 30ft tall. All that manure will sure make it grow.
Wonder if the bamboo will drop the selling price? It would be my luck that it would.
Good luck with the lot on Guntersville. Sounds like a dream place to retire and fish..
My wife works in Columbia one day a week. At Vulcan..

Thanks Red. My grandson and I went bass fishing there (Guntersville) Sun. and we caught 13 bass. My grandson caught the biggest, a 4lb. 10 oz. We caught most of them on Red Rattle Traps. We have not done any crappie fishing there, but by the time I retire, I hope to have out many PVC and Bamboo condos near our place. I can't wait, I've dreamed about living on the water for many years. Later<>< <>< <>< Jack

I have heard you can take landscaping plastic and barry it about 2 foot deep to make a barrier, and the cane will not grow past that. That stuff grows like wildfire.
when I grow up I want to be, one of the harvesters of the sea. I think before my days are done, I want to be a fisherman.

FYI- Roundup doesn't work on woody stem plants (look on the bottle) that why they have round up cotton.

Also your standard landscape plastic wont work as a barrier either. The roots will go straight through it. You need at least 60mil thick plastic or better yet, metal, burried 24-36" deep. AND SEAL THE SEAMS or it will find them. Do your research it has been pioneered for you, many folks grow and CONTAIN this stuff successfully. That stuff is evil!!!

Exclamation YES ... do be careful what you wish for --

and what you get started growing !! Take a hint from those that thought Kudzu was going to eliminate erosion problems ... only to find out that it made some even greater problems !!
And check with the local authorities ... they may view it as an invasive species, and you could be in a whole heap of trouble ............ cp

if you wanted to grow some in your yard, could you bury one of those small plastic swimming pools then plant inside of itP Would that contain it? I might plant some as a privacy fence along my back chaing link. they are builing houses behind me now and I don't wan't to shell out the $$$ for a fence.

Maybe you could grow it in a 5 gallon bucket...then all you would have to do is cement the bucket in and drop it in the lake.

There is a site on the net about gardening www.gardenweb.com go there and go to the forum section. To ask a question you have to sign up (no charge). They have a forum just about bamboo even has an exchange section where you can get some bamboo from someone else. You can ask any quections you might have about bamboo topics. Also others have posted comments might find answers from just reading topics there. This is a really informative site about a number of gardening topics.

I planted some last fall between a creek & a powerline on the backside of my property. Figured I would let the power co. keep it trimmed back for me. lol Just have to remember to watch those lines when I cut it. The leaves have turned brown & fallen off. If it doesn't put out new shoots this spring I'll get some more, I know where plenty is close to where I work.

I went as far as to till up a 50 yd. by 10 yd. area on the corner of my Dad's lot on Lake Nimrod. My plan was to go get some roots up the road at a friends place and grow my own supply.

I luckily started studying about the aggressive nature of bamboo and quickly decided that this was something I did not want to plant on a small place and so close to a neighbors property.

Now if you have access to a larger area and your not to worried about containing it then go for it! Of everything that I have ever used to construct fish beds nothing has come close to bamboo!

I have caught 14 to 15 inch crappie within days of putting in a cane condo!

Ok, Ok...I have read each of these post and have come to a couple of conclusions:
    1. It is a REALLY aggressive plant.
    2. You can't hardly contain it and stop it from spreading.
    3. Main purpose is to build condo's.
    Can I ask a question?????
If condo's are what your after, can't you plant shoots in 5 gal plastic paint buckets.....as many as you want....and when they get tall enough....just take the condo out and sink it???? You could even get shoots from them to start new ones and your only limited to how many buckets you want to put up with. Am I completely off the mark????
    Just wondering!
A gun in hand is a lot better than a cop on the phone.
