Don`t think there is a wrong way to put them out. But you need to put them out before you have to get out. Same thing happened here a few years ago. I got them out with just a few days to spare.

It works better if you throw out one tree at a time.

One per bucket here. Just try to get all the needles off the tree that you can before setting them out. I let them dry out and burn the needles off.

I put out 25 trees this year, I put them in a 5 gallon bucket and filled them half way up with concrete, you can go to most construction jobs look in there dumpsters and get all the buckets you need. I found that trimming the middleout of the trees and and a few limbs from top to bottom helps, seems like the crappie prefer being able to move around in them.I also burn the needles off of them ,then was them off with a water hose, I spoke with a local wildlife officer, and read a few discussions the say burning them is the way to go, they say some tree growers spray a chemical on them to keep them greener, and cpappie dislike it, I hope this info helps!
