Like I have said in the past too many parasites in fresh water fish for me .
My wife just took a bag of frozen crappie fillets and made some incredible ceviche. If you like ceviche crappie's a good way to go.

FWIW, talked the the fisheries biologist today. He said: crappie fillets being thin, any parasites should be readily apparent upon inspection either after filleting them or prior to preparing them and could easily be removed. Also, even if we did ingest a few he didn't think it would be a big deal.

It's probably not a good idea to eat fresh, raw fish ... it should be frozen or cooked prior to consumption. I think the various species of tapeworm that may be present in fish from US waters are the main danger.
