Better read up on freshwater fish parasites before doing it . They say it won't kill them .

Newly, on the NC board, is fond of crappie ceviche. He has posted recipes on several occasions. I haven't tried it.
I've tried to but it was horrible
I've tried it and I like it a lot. I put mine on salads sometimes but most of the time I just eat it. Nimrod may have a point about parasites, but dig long enough and you will find out that breathing is bad for your health as well. I'll keep eating it until I get sick I guess!
By the way, fried foods are bad for your health!

mite have to try it. i could stand to loose some weight from the parasites. lol
What I don't understand is people using tilapia and it is a fresh water fish. I really don't know that I would consider it a fish!!!! LOL
We've done it with tuna and wahoo. Can't say I've ever seen anyone use freshwater fish.
Yes, we have used crappie and absolutely loved it. I am not sure about the whole parasite thing but I'm with Kent, pretty much everything these days seem to bad for you in one way or another. Heck, now I am seeing recipes for medium-rare chicken...yep, chicken...I may have to hold off on that one for a little while! HA! Here is the recipe we use for it other than I leave out the avocado just because I am not a fan.
1 Pound Crappie Fillets
10-12 Limes
4-5 Jalapeno Peppers, finely chopped
2-3 Garlic Cloves
Kosher Salt to Taste
1/2 Small Onion, diced
1 Roma Tomato, diced
1 Avocado, diced
4-5 Fresh Cilantro, finely chopped
Cut the Crappie into small pieces, one-half to one-inch chunks. Place Crappie chunks into a glass bowl and squeeze limes into the bowl until the fish is completely covered. Press Garlic into the bowl and stir. Add salt and half of the jalapenos into the mixture and stir. Place mixture into the refrigerator, uncovered, for 8 to 12 hours. Strain the excess lime juice from the fish mixture, and add onion, tomato, avocado, and cilantro. Stir gently to combine everything. Serve with tortilla chips.
