    Default Oiless fryer

Anyone ever use one of the oiless fryers for doing a turkey? If so was it one of the propane or electric models? I've heard good things about them and am thinking about getting rid of the big oil mess for the turkey this year. In the past I've re-used the leftover oil for fish frys but have never used more than a 1/2 gallon of the leftover 3 gallons. What a waste and that peanut oil is expensive. Opinions?

My son has one. Not sure how it works, but the turkey comes out good. I think it is kinda like convection cooking, maybe?? His is propane.

It belong to Neon. Think it works on convection heat. I know it makes a mean pork roast. He even made a small steel ring that fits in the bottom you put wood chips in and get smoke flavor while cooking. I think if I was buying one I would go for the Electric model.

If it ain't in oil it's not frying. It's baking.

They work by infrared and I've been seeing some great reviews on the internet as well as on a fishing board up here (OhioGamefishing.com), seen some pics and they really do brown and crisp up like deep frying. You would use a rub on the turkey, chicken, pork or beef. 2 types, propane and electric. The electric ones are made for inside use and are around $175, the propane ones are made for outside use and are around $100. As much as I've always enjoyed the traditional deep fried birds I'm done with buying 5 gallons of peanut oil and having to nurse it, risk a tragic accident, hope I don't overcook the bird, have to wait until 9PM for the oil to cool down to clean up, and figure out what to do with all that used oil. If I find out that I'm doing the turkey this year (heaven forbid someone else in the family cook it) I'm getting one and will give results on here. If I do get one I'm also going to try (what else?) crappie in it. I think I've found a (waddya call it) epiphany here

I have one and they are fantastic. Turkeys come out almost like they are fried in oil, but not quite. However, they are not as greasy which is a plus for me. Very crisp and moist, wonderful eating. They best thing I've cooked in mine is a standing rib roast. Holy smokes they are good! Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. I've done wings, ribs, whole chickens, you name it. I have the propane version Charbroil Big Easy. I highly recommend, no more 3 gallons of oil!

Just ate some of a pork roast cooked in one tonight. Tender and Juicy inside with a great crust on the outside. Took about 4 hrs. No fuss no muss on cleanup.
