When it comes to Christmas memories it’s hard to forget what I now call my “cast net” Christmas. They took to this really high bridge to open my present, one cold Christmas Eve. When I unwrapped it I asked “What is it?” They said it’s a “fisherman’s” parachute, as they were hooking me up to it. I placed up on the edge to take a photograph, yeah right. I asked “What is all of these lead weights around the edge of my new parachute?”. I couldn’t understand their answer because of the loud chuckling. This thing seemed to have too many holes in to work very well. Soon, with the help of a little push, I was proven right. The only bright spot is when I was hauled out of the water we had enough fish to last a month.

My brother and I were very blessed to have loving parents. My Dad was a barber. He did the best he could to provide for his family and give the best he had. Our tradition when I was little was the grand parents would come to our house on Christmas Eve. Then a need to go to the corner store would come up. My brother and I would go with our grandparents to the store. When we returned home we discovered we “just missed” Santa Claus. Our toys and presence were under the tree. Years to come the tradition continued. My brother and I caught on and would remind our parents, “isn’t it time to go to the store”!

Since the kids are all grown and the wife passed away years ago, I don’t put a tree up anymore. My kids still bring my grands by to say merry Christmas tho.
