One year I kept asking and hoping to have a white Christmas. Finally when Christmas morn finally came, I was awakened and took outside. Wiping sleep from my eyes I saw a bright red kayak in my dad’s truck. I yelped “for me?”. He answered “kinda”. As he was strapping me into the cockpit he was explaining how he was only able to afford renting it. He hollered “hold on!”, as we tore out of the driveway. Quite the ride, me and the kayak going down that rough gravel road. We stopped at this river that had some serious rapids. As he slid me and the boat out of the truck into river, I felt a BIG push. He said he couldn’t afford to give me a white Christmas, but he did the next best thing. A whitewater Christmas! I tried to ask him “shouldn’t I have a helmet and paddle?”. But evidently he couldn’t hear me because of all the racket this thing making bouncing off all those darn rocks. I never asked for a white Christmas again.
Pass the "Sportsman Baton" on before you're gone, promote values for others to hunt and fish upon.
