My dad who taught me and was my fishing buddy were fishing at Lake Lucas in the winter time. We both had insulated coveralls on and were trolling along the bank casting looking for bass or anything that would bite. I happened to throw up into an overhanging tree and we went over to get it. Couldn’t quite reach it so told dad hold the chair and I would step up and grab it. Well around swings the chair and dumps me right in the water boots and all. Once I surface and scramble back into the boat with the help of my dad the laughter starts. Well I’m blaming him, he’s blaming me we are both laughing. It’s not cold ( I’m freezing) let’s keep fishing. Nope my dad knows better so home we go. I can’t even remember if we got the lure or not but I will never forget this memory of many I have with my dad. I miss him everyday.
This was a day when all of the stars aligned! We fished in one area, and it was fast and furious the entire few hours! Never had a day like this, before or after. It was a cold, mid December day.

When at Toledo Bend, I will sometimes throw out some jug lines for catfish while I go crappie fishing. I used to have an old black lab that would go as my fishing partner. After crappie fishing, I would go back and check the jug lines. My Lab, named Rev, would go to the front of the boat and watch for the jug and then walk to the back where I would pull it up. If there was no fish, he would run back up to the front. If there was a fish, he would bark at it until I got the hook out. One day I pulled a line up and low and behold, a 30 lb. Catfish was on the line. The catfish was so big , Rev jumped over the middle storage box and hid in the front of the boat. It was hilarious to watch. No bark. No whimper. Just big eyes and stone silence from Rev.

SpeckledSlab thanked you for this post
The day my daughter caught her first fish. Last summer my brother bought his grandmothers house, which has a small private pond, with good banks to fish. I had been over replumbing the house bc it had say vacant for years and all the pipes burst. I charged him a case a beer and rights to bring her out anytime she wants to go fishing. So, after we finish and get the water turned back on, I had the wife bring her over. I had all my gear in the truck already. I give her my 5' ultralight with a float and a chunk of crawler about a ft or so under it, cast it out and she started her slow reel in...shes almost 3 at the time...I'm standing next to her watching her jam the rod tip into the silt, when her bobber dunks..she just caught her first fish! I let her reel until about 10 ft from the bank where I took over to get it through the weeds and flipped it out...she was elated, as was I, and now shes hooked. Sorry I suck so bad at telling stories, but here's the pics
