While bank fishing a canal with a friend and his 11yr. old son, we started catching numerous catfish. Neither of them had ever fished or at least caught fish. I demonstrated how to safely remove catfish from the hook. But his son, in all of his excitement, kept handling them like they were as harmless as a stuffed animal. It still amazes me how he never got finned. Sadly just two short years later Duane was electrocuted to death just after his 13th birthday. He is still deeply missed, but I fondly reminisce that day by the canal.
Pass the "Sportsman Baton" on before you're gone, promote values for others to hunt and fish upon.
