Learn your fishing area well. It's better to know a smaller area well than to run all over the place and not catch fish and burning gas. Gas doesn't catch fish.

I did not notice this sticky until I posted my tip on Rod holders on the boat rigging site. These tool make using Driftmaster rod holders and Rod racks a breeze. I don't have a picture posted of the DM rod holders but they fit either of these depending on whether you have 3/8" or 1/2" Threads.

Hand tying your own jigs gives you unlimited choices on what materials to use. I can be enjoyable also. Nothing quite like the satisfaction you get from catching a mess of crappie on jigs you made yourself. Come up with a pattern they love and you have an edge that can't be beat. Throwing a bait different than everyone else can pay off handsomely.

I would say start with the whole family bring a lunch and a minnnow bucket full of medium shiners, a hand full of bobbers, and number 4 or 6 eagle claw hooks. Find a shady spot sit back and enjoy being outdoors wit the family.

I think pulling jigs with the kids is really easy and gives the best chance for keeping them having fun. Some tangles when we catch but they're usually still messing with the fish while I get everything reset. Works good for us.

Get a boat that you're comfortable in. Go with a friend or mate that loves fishing as much as you do. Fish early, late, and often. Realize you won't be successful each and every time, even the pro's get skunked sometimes. Join a great forum like Crappie.com and you will learn and increase your odds considerably. Take a little one fishing sometime, it's not a big deal to you but is something they will remember all of their life.Name: barkley lake .jpg
