• Fishing report for Big Sandy KY Lake week of Feb. 16, 2014

Hi folks. Welcome to Richard Williams Outdoors.

The water levels here on Kentucky Lake have stayed pretty steady at around 356 and a half. But by the end of the weekend, the water levels are supposed to drop to around 355 and a half. The surface temperatures are still in the mid 30’s.
Crappie fishing has actually been pretty good here on the Big Sandy this week. Dark colored jigs like black and chartreuse tipped with crappie nibbles or a black, blue, and chartreuse stinger shads tipped with a small minnow are doing real good in getting the fish to take a boat ride with you. Most of the people that I have talked with that have been catching good numbers of fish, are using those jigs while fishing on the deeper drops and ledges in18 to 22 feet of water and holding the jigs as still as they can.
Hopefully, we will only have a few more weeks of all this cold weather stuff. Then hopefully, it will start warming up and we can get back to what we like best. And that’s hunting and fishing.
The Fishing Expo that I have been talking about the past couple weeks will be held next Saturday the 22nd. I had the date right, but I have been saying the wrong day of the week. The 22nd is NEXT Saturday. The expo will be at the Birds Creek Baptist Church on Whitlock Road just past the rail road tracks. There will be some folks there that will be talking about how they catch crappie in a lot of different lakes and I will be there talking about some of the Humminbird Side Image units and how I use them to find and catch crappie.
Don’t forget, our fishing license will expire at the end o fthis month. The new license should be available next Monday or Tuesday. They are usually ready for purchase on February 18th. Make sure you get your new license before March first. The folks from TWRA will most likely be on the lake in full force March the 1st checking to make sure you have your new 2014 fishing license. It will be a lot cheaper to get them before the dead line than it will to get caught without them after the dead line.

That’s all the time we have for this week.
    See-ya on the water folks.
    Thanks for listening.
