• Our twin girls' first fishing trip and first fish!!

I took our three year old twin girls to a pond to try a little fishing, today. They were really excited. They each have little poles...a princess and a Zebco Demon, I think it's called. The little poles were not working AT ALL so I thought I would let them use my jigging poles. They are 11' poles but the girls were sitting beside me on the bank of the pond just holding them. Each pole was set up for crappie and each had a different color jig on it. They were set!

I had never fished this pond before but we had permission and were told it was well stocked. We weren't there five minutes before one of the bobbers sank. I pulled up on the rod to set the hook for my youngest and told her to reel. She reeled and reeled and reeled and finally drug in one of the biggest bream I've ever seen. She was so excited! She said over and over, "I wanna do it again!" So we did. This time, we pulled in an even bigger bream than before. After that, they were pretty excited about fishing but the poles were really hard for them to hold and the algae was thick up against the bank. When the pole would touch the water, everything got tangled in the algae. This happened a few times as the bobbers were going under so we lost some fish. It's safe to say that we lost more than we caught. At this point, they started getting a bit tired. I had taken them in the afternoon and it was pretty warm and past their naptime so they were ready to call it a day. We had been there a whole hour. I managed to pull in a couple of bass before we left to make it a meal. The point was not to be there a long time or catch a mess of fish. I just wanted them to catch something. I wanted them to feel the excitement of the strike, seeing the bobber go under and the thrill of pulling the fish ashore and putting it on the stringer. I wanted to spark some interest and get them excited about fishing. I'm proud that we went and they were, too. They have told everyone about their fishing trip!

After we got home, we filleted them. The girls love watching us fillet fish. They bounced around and hollered, having a great time. Their mama asked them, "Do you like fish?" They said, " YES! And we're gonna eat 'em!"

Needless to say, I'm a proud daddy. Can't wait until we go again but this time, I will be sure to have some good ol' Zebco 33's on hand. Here are a few pictures. Two pictures are of the girls with the fish and one is of the two perch that they caught. MAN! If only we could have mess of those. Maybe it won't be long!

Nothing is better than taking a kid fishing. If you have never done it, try it. It'll warm your heart!
